Lenovo expands AI strategy with Mistral, Alibaba, DeepSeek partnerships
Lenovo bets on AI orchestrator model to sustain global growth

Seeking to expand its influence in artificial intelligence, Lenovo is partnering with Humain, Mistral AI, Alibaba, and DeepSeek to develop and deploy their models and products across its devices. The company believes this approach will help it avoid regional frictions while maintaining strong sales across a wide range of countries.

Highlights

  • In 2025, Lenovo retained its leadership in PC shipments, delivering 70.8 million units.
  • In AI, Lenovo is pursuing an “orchestrator” strategy, collaborating with global companies such as Mistral AI, Alibaba, DeepSeek, and Humain instead of building its own large language models.
  • The company recently launched “Qira,” a system-level AI “super agent” that operates across PCs, smartphones, and wearables to deliver a unified user experience.

Lenovo closed 2025 as the global leader in the personal computer market, shipping 70.8 million laptops and desktops. The company holds 24.9% of the global PC market and aims to maintain its advantage over key competitors such as HP (57.5 million units), Dell (41.1 million), Apple (25.6 million), ASUS (20.5 million), and others.

At the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, Lenovo Group Chief Financial Officer Winston Cheng outlined the company’s ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence through what he described as an “orchestrator approach.”

According to Cheng, Lenovo does not want to compete directly with model developers. Instead, it aims to become a platform on which these models operate.

To achieve this, Lenovo has signed agreements with Humain, Mistral AI, Alibaba, and DeepSeek, allowing the company to avoid building its own large language models while navigating complex global regulations and delivering region-specific AI solutions.

AI data and security regulations vary significantly by country. For example, AI models used in China must comply with different standards than those deployed in Europe or the Middle East.

To address local requirements, Lenovo is forming partnerships in each major market. In Europe, the company is considering Mistral AI. In China, it is working with Alibaba and DeepSeek. In the Middle East, Lenovo is exploring cooperation with Humain, a Saudi AI initiative.

Through this strategy, Lenovo aims to overcome complex global regulations and deliver regionally compliant AI solutions across its broad Windows and Android device ecosystem, in contrast to competitors such as Apple, which currently limits its AI integration primarily to OpenAI and Google Gemini.

New products and solutions

As Cheng revealed, earlier this month at CES 2026 Lenovo unveiled its new built-in, cross-platform intelligent system called “Qira,” described as a “personal ambient intelligence” that remains active across laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Qira can summarize meetings, assist with document creation, and even predict a user’s “next step” by analyzing calendars and files.

By integrating models from partners such as Alibaba and Mistral AI directly into Qira, Lenovo can deliver high-speed AI performance without requiring users to open separate applications.

In addition, Lenovo and Nvidia recently introduced the “AI Cloud Gigafactory,” which combines Lenovo’s Neptune liquid-cooling technology with Nvidia’s advanced chips, including the new Vera Rubin NVL72 architecture, to build large-scale data centers.

These “gigafactories” are designed to help AI cloud providers deploy infrastructure in weeks rather than months. Cheng noted that Lenovo and Nvidia are focused on global rollout, with expansion plans targeting Asia and the Middle East.
