Cboe plans KPI contracts launch with Robinhood on U.S. exchange
Cboe, Robinhood launch KPI contracts

Cboe is expanding its prediction market lineup with company-specific binary contracts linked to corporate performance metrics and events. The products are expected in October 2026, subject to regulatory approval, with Robinhood set to become the first retail broker to offer them at launch.

Highlights

  • Cboe Exchange will launch SEC-regulated KPI binary options contracts for 23 major U.S.-listed stocks, offering fee waivers through end-2026 pending regulatory approval.
  • Robinhood will distribute the Cboe KPI contracts to retail investors with no fees until year-end, expanding accessible event-driven trading products.
  • Cboe applied for SEC temporary registration of Cboe Clear U.S., LLC as a Covered Clearing Agency, aiming to facilitate clearing for new KPI contracts and future tokenized products.

Product rollout and exchange structure

According to Cboe, the planned contracts will let investors take positions on company-specific key performance indicators through SEC-regulated instruments traded on Cboe's registered U.S. securities exchange. The company says that structure sets the offering apart from similar event-based contracts trading on designated contract markets, and aligns the products with the transparency, oversight and investor protections of U.S. securities markets.

Cboe plans to initially list contracts tied to 23 U.S.-listed companies, focusing on some of the most actively traded stocks in the market. It also plans to waive fees on the KPI binary options through the end of 2026, subject to regulatory review, while Robinhood says it will offer the products with no fees through the end of the year.

JJ Kinahan, head of retail expansion and alternative investment products at Cboe, says the contracts are designed to give investors granular exposure to the company metrics that often drive quarterly headlines. Steve Quirk, chief brokerage officer at Robinhood, says the products give retail investors another tool to shape trading strategies around anticipated company KPIs.

Clearing expansion and market impact

As part of the rollout, Cboe has filed an application with the SEC for temporary registration of Cboe Clear U.S., LLC as a Covered Clearing Agency. If regulators approve the request, the clearinghouse would clear the KPI contracts and broaden Cboe's role across listing, trading and clearing.

Cboe says the launch responds to rising demand for event-driven products that are easy for investors to understand and directly tied to the companies they follow. The initiative also supports the exchange operator's broader strategy to expand its U.S. clearing business into new product categories over time, potentially including tokenized binary security options, subject to regulatory approval.

Our earlier article on Robinhood’s platform expansion for active traders covered the company’s plans to broaden market access and add more advanced tools in its app. We noted that Robinhood is aiming to support round-the-clock strategies by introducing 24/7 trading for select U.S. equities (including weekends), rolling out AI-powered trading agents, and preparing to launch crypto perpetual futures.
