Deutsche Bank lifts rating and price target

As reported by CNBC, citing Deutsche Bank, the investment bank upgraded Walmart to buy from hold and raised its price target to $136 from $113, implying about 17% upside from Wednesday's close.

Analyst Krisztina Katai said in a Thursday note to clients that the current inflationary environment should reinforce Walmart's value proposition and support faster share gains, even as investors look beyond pressure on U.S. comparable sales. She also said incremental margins are expected to improve as higher-margin businesses continue to outgrow core retail and as automation benefits increasingly flow through profit and loss.

Katai added that Walmart's market share is likely to accelerate. She described the company's shift from a traditional retailer to a technology-led marketplace as another factor that could translate into stronger stock performance.

Digital expansion supports retail outlook

Walmart is drawing more customers by pushing deeper into e-commerce, expanding its online marketplace and prioritizing its delivery service. The company has also launched an artificial intelligence-powered shopping assistant, Sparky, which Deutsche Bank said should help lift sales.

According to Katai, customer baskets are roughly 40% larger when shoppers use the technology. The bullish call is broadly in line with Wall Street sentiment, with LSEG data showing that 39 of 44 analysts covering Walmart rate the stock buy or strong buy, while five rate it hold. Walmart shares are up more than 4% year to date.

Our earlier report on Ralph Lauren tying executive payouts to AI highlighted how retailers are moving from experimenting with AI to making leadership directly accountable for adoption. We noted that the company added AI literacy and enablement metrics to its FY2026 incentive plan, reflecting a broader industry push to deploy AI across pricing, inventory management, and customer-facing tools such as shopping assistants.
