Launch metrics and exchange rollout
As reported by MEMX, citing MEMX Group, MX2 Options begins trading on the company’s existing high-performance infrastructure, which also supports its current equity and options exchanges. The new venue gives market participants access to a customer priority, pro-rata allocation model that uses a size-based approach to order execution and is designed to provide additional ways to source liquidity. On its first trading day, the exchange trades more than 1,500 contracts across 10 symbols with participation from 19 member firms. MEMX Group says it plans to gradually expand the number of symbols available for trading on MX2 Options over the next few weeks.
Chief executive Jonathan Kellner says the launch marks an important milestone for MEMX and reflects support from members and the broader options community. He says adding a customer priority, pro-rata model alongside the company’s existing price-time options exchange allows MEMX to support a wider set of trading strategies and offer market participants more choice in how they provide and access liquidity.
Competition strategy and market expansion
The new exchange follows what MEMX describes as extensive industry testing and collaboration before going live. The company says the addition of MX2 advances its strategy of fostering competition and delivering flexible products built around changing market needs.MX2 Options also adds to MEMX’s recent expansion momentum after news of its combination with BOX, a hybrid U.S. equity options market with both electronic and floor-based trading. MEMX says the move underscores its push to broaden customer functionality through diversification and expansion.
MEMX Group says it now operates six markets and continues to position itself as a technology-driven exchange operator for the global investment community. Founded in 2019 by a group of financial firms, the company says its broader mission is to promote market structure reform and create more efficient and transparent trading access for investors.
Our earlier coverage of a potential Euronext–Deutsche Börse tie-up explained how European exchange operators are considering mergers or partial combinations to build scale, improve liquidity, and compete more effectively with U.S. rivals. It also noted that any deal would face substantial antitrust hurdles and would unfold amid ongoing EU debates over market supervision that could reshape regulatory oversight for a larger combined group.
