IBM posts strong EPS and AI gains

Stephanie Link, Managing Director / Portfolio Manager at Hightower Advisors, reports a strong quarter for IBM, highlighting EPS growth of 19.4%, total revenue up 9.5%, and software growth of 11%. IBM's consulting business remained in line with expectations, while infrastructure increased 15%, benefiting from mainframe sales. The company has achieved AI-driven savings of $4.5B since 2023 and sees quantum computing as the next major opportunity.

Link has recently pointed to CEO insider purchases and a $1 billion buyback at Palo Alto Networks, calling the cyber stock selloff overdone in a previous note. She has also highlighted her focus on buying quality companies trading at a discount, with an eye on long-term opportunities in earlier commentary here. These earlier views inform her current outlook on IBM's quarterly results.
