Energy and commodity prices surge

Charlie Bilello, chief market strategist at Creative Planning, highlights significant increases across key commodities and energy prices since the start of the Iran war.

Jet fuel leads with a 70% increase, followed by sulfur up 60%, Brent crude oil and heating oil both rising 52%, and West Texas Intermediate crude oil up 48%. Other notable moves include gasoline up 40%, European natural gas up 36%, and the S&P 500 higher by 4%. In contrast, VIX is down 10%, illustrating divergent trends between commodities and market volatility.

Bilello previously reported that jet fuel and crude oil prices surged after the Iran war began. In a separate analysis, he found that 59% of U.S. stocks underperform Treasury bills over their lifetime. The data reflect his ongoing focus on relative asset performance and commodities.
