Fixing Social Security can address a major fiscal gap, Marc Goldwein notes
Social Security fix could close fiscal gap

Marc Goldwein said a thoughtful Social Security fix has the potential to close half or more of the fiscal gap.

He added that most of the remaining gap could be addressed with policies to lower health care costs and reduce waste, fraud, errors, and abuse in the budget and the tax code.

Goldwein has previously argued that reducing deficits is crucial for improving affordability, with an emphasis on the effects on inflation, interest rates, and health care costs, according to an earlier analysis. He has also noted a shift in interest rate forecasting trends from overestimating to underestimating expected moves in a separate report. His current recommendations align with his ongoing focus on fiscal responsibility and accurate budget projections.
