U.S. inflation and core prices climb

U.S. inflation accelerated in September, with both headline and core measures moving higher.

Ben Casselman reported that prices increased 3.7 percent over the past year, while core prices rose at an annual rate of 3.4 percent over the past three months.

Casselman previously reported that U.S. employers added 29,000 jobs in September as the unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent here. He also noted that surging A.I. investment is contributing to inflation and remains resistant to higher interest rates here. These factors have added complexity to the recent inflation trend.
