Student loan threshold freeze increases payments

The student loan (Plan 2) repayment threshold will be frozen from April, requiring millions of borrowers to pay more.

Martin Lewis, founder and finance commentator at MoneySavingExpert, described the change as a case of double fiscal drag. He stated that this is not what borrowers had originally agreed to and asked the Chancellor to address the issue.

Lewis has previously highlighted cash incentives from U.K. banks, noting offers of up to £600 in free cash ahead of Christmas in his recent podcast. He has also commented on fixed income opportunities, pointing out that short-dated UK gilts held to maturity could yield as much as 8% if taxed. These topics reflect Lewis’s continued focus on personal finance and savers' options.
