Earnings focus intensifies as transformation and backlog drive sentiment

Quantum Computing Inc. is preparing to report its second-quarter 2026 earnings after the close on Monday, following a year of significant transformation. The company has expanded into semiconductor manufacturing, launched NeuraWave, and incorporated new businesses, alongside deploying the Dirac-3 optimization system. Recent efforts also target photonic microring resonator improvements and commercial growth in quantum and photonics technology through acquisitions and balance sheet expansion. Investor focus remains on backlog growth, NeuraWave orders, manufacturing utilization, and cash management, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees Quantum Computing’s recent dip as a function of weak sentiment and structural supply pressure. He notes that technical signals are conflicting amid lingering bearish dominance on larger timeframes. The neutral momentum on the MACD and strong overbought signals from the CCI and Stochastic RSI show that any upside could quickly meet exhaustion. Business expansion and new product launches have not translated to lasting price strength, while underlying cash burn and a reliance on order backlogs highlight ongoing risks. "The rally looks fragile — without a clear shift in fundamentals or reversal in long-term trends, Quantum Computing’s downside risks outweigh the near-term bounce," says Kharitonov.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, views the recent business expansion and semiconductor manufacturing move as strong signals of momentum. He points to growing order backlogs, NeuraWave traction, and strategic acquisitions which strengthen the bullish structure. Investor attention on backlog growth and balance sheet improvements supports further growth potential. "With new commercial initiatives and a clear drive into quantum and photonics technology, I expect the stock to deliver fresh upside surprises in the next phase," Karapetjanc states.
Jainam Mehta, market strategist, notes that Quantum Computing’s price action is locked between its 20-day and longer moving averages, reflecting tactical range-bound potential. The mixed momentum signals invite contrarian trades, especially as overbought readings could trigger short-term pullbacks. With the immediate forecast band between $8.44 and $9.32, volatility events around earnings could drive breakout attempts in either direction. "If price consolidates above $8.89 on strong results, I would look for a tactical long, but a failure at support makes a quick reversal likely," Mehta says.

Short-term bullish edge as mixed momentum challenges resistance

Quantum Computing is trading above the 20-day moving average at $8.15, but remains below both the 50-day ($9.34) and 200-day ($10.05) moving averages. This structure indicates short-term bullish momentum, while medium- and long-term trends are still restricted by seller dominance, as seen in the bearish alignment of the higher moving averages. The closest resistance lies at $8.89, marginally above the current level, and the nearest support is at the Ichimoku Kijun line of $8.57. Momentum indicators are mixed: MACD is neutral, ADX signals indecisiveness, RSI is in buy territory, but both Stochastic RSI and CCI indicate overbought conditions. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) is strongly positive at 0.67, showing intraday buying strength, while the Awesome Oscillator delivers a strong buy signal. Divergent momentum signals call for caution as BBP and AO show strength, yet oscillators warn of overbought risks.

Earlier, analysts noted that Quantum Computing was exhibiting short-term momentum within a broader consolidation phase, with risks balanced between breakout and breakdown scenarios. The current setup adds a layer of caution, as mixed signals and overbought readings highlight the importance of monitoring near-term volatility bands and the $8.57 support for signs of sustained directional movement following earnings.
