Nvidia earnings due after market close: Is holding overnight worth the risk?
Nvidia heads into today’s session after a short-term rebound and a move back above $214. However, intraday price action is likely to remain secondary, as the company will report quarterly results after the market close, potentially reshaping the entire technical picture.
Today, any individual corporate developments are unlikely to match the importance of Nvidia’s fiscal 2027 second-quarter results.
Expectations remain extremely high. Wall Street forecasts quarterly revenue of around $92 billion and adjusted EPS of roughly $2.09, while Nvidia previously guided for revenue of about $91 billion, plus or minus 2%. Beyond the headline numbers, investors will be watching Data Center growth, gross margin and guidance particularly closely, as these metrics will indicate whether AI infrastructure spending is maintaining its previous pace.

$217 stays the key intraday target for Nvidia
The scenario outlined earlier played out, with Nvidia stock recovering above $214 intraday and confirming a short-term rebound after holding the 50-day SMA.
For today’s regular session, the base case remains a continuation of the recovery toward $217.
This target, however, is relevant only until the market close. Once quarterly results are released, current technical levels could lose much of their short-term predictive value, as a significant earnings or guidance surprise could trigger a wide post-earnings gap in either direction.
Overnight positions carry unusually high risk
For short-term traders, Nvidia earnings day is one of those situations where holding positions overnight can carry disproportionately high risk. Liquidity is considerably lower after the regular session, spreads are wider and large orders can move the price more sharply.
A more cautious approach would therefore be to consider new short-term positions only after the earnings release and the market’s initial reaction.
