Payroll cuts and restructuring as AI investments reshape outlook

Oracle Corporation is preparing to release its Q1 FY2027 earnings on September 10, with attention on its $23.7 billion negative free cash flow following $55.7 billion in capital expenditures over the past year. The company has directed managers to cut payroll by September 1, incurring about $1.84 billion in restructuring expenses linked to severance and organizational changes as part of its broader AI adoption strategy. Oracle's ongoing infrastructure expansion and partnership with OpenAI are also in focus ahead of the earnings report.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views Oracle’s recent rally cautiously in light of its $23.7 billion negative free cash flow and ongoing restructuring costs. He sees overstretched technical indicators and heavy capital expenditures as critical red flags, despite short-term momentum. Longer-term resistance persists with price still under the 200-day moving average, and overbought signals suggest limited upside. Kharitonov highlights that persistent cost-cutting reflects underlying business pressures, not just strategic AI investment. "Markets may be focusing on headlines, but I see risks outweighing rewards until financial stability improves," he warns.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees Oracle maintaining its bullish structure after the earnings-driven surge. He believes aggressive restructuring and AI partnerships set the stage for future growth. Confidence is building ahead of the September 10 earnings, with market sentiment favoring further upside if current trends hold. For Karapetjanc, these developments keep the opportunity profile attractive. "In my view, the market offers multiple setups for further gains as Oracle’s strategy gains traction," he asserts.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, notes Oracle’s sentiment-driven uptrend is supported by strong technical momentum, yet closing near session lows with overbought signals hints at near-term pause. He sees plenty of short-term setups around the $157.15 to $158.79 range. For Turakhiya, traders should focus on volatility bands as consolidation could offer breakout or reversal entries. "I’d watch for pullbacks or consolidation before chasing upside, letting the sentiment cool before the next move," he says.

Short- and medium-term bullishness tempered by overbought signals

Oracle is trading above its 20-day ($147.7) and 50-day ($139.72) moving averages, signaling short- and medium-term bullish momentum, but remains below the 200-day average at $169.07. This structure points to some longer-term pressure from sellers, with the nearest resistance and support defined by today's high of $158.79 and low of $157.15. Momentum readings show a positive outlook, as both the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Relative Strength Index (RSI) support buying with the MACD trending higher and the RSI at 57.53. However, the Stochastic RSI, Commodity Channel Index (CCI), and Bull/Bear Power (BBP) all indicate overbought conditions, with BBP confirming buyers remain firmly in control intraday. The Average Directional Index (ADX) at 12.52 and the Awesome Oscillator point to a neutral-to-bullish tone. The stock is up $3.37 or 2.19% after opening to an upside gap of about $3.88 (2.52%), trading near the session’s low, with intraday volatility at 1.04%. Today’s climb and gap up are met by heavy buying, but overbought signals suggest momentum may pause or consolidate soon.

Earlier, analysts noted that Oracle was consolidating following major AI infrastructure investments and restructuring efforts intended to position the company for cloud growth. The current outlook builds on this framework, with technical signals suggesting a period of consolidation near current levels and a breakout above $158.79 serving as the next key threshold to monitor.
