Data-center deal flow and call demand as segment revenue jumps

GlobalFoundries reported 5.8% overall revenue growth for Q2 2026, with its data-center segment increasing by 62% due to advancements in silicon photonics and silicon germanium. The company announced an expanded multi-year agreement with Marvell Technology to boost silicon germanium manufacturing at its Vermont facility for high-speed optical transceivers and AI data center applications. GlobalFoundries is also expected to operate a new U.S.-Japan backed semiconductor facility focused on logic chip production. Options trading activity has surged, with a 9-to-1 call-to-put ratio as the stock gained over 23% year to date.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views the recent rebound in GlobalFoundries as tentative. He notes that the price trades above its 20-day moving average, but remains under significant pressure from longer-term sellers, with persistent resistance near $47.41. Kharitonov highlights that technical momentum signals such as MACD, ADX, and RSI are mostly bearish. He is particularly cautious about the mixed sentiment despite favorable news headlines, noting increased options speculation might signal short-term volatility rather than sustainable upside. "Unless GFS can reclaim the 50-day average and hold above resistance, downside risks dominate and traders should remain defensive," he says.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees strong underlying opportunity for GlobalFoundries after its robust Q2 performance and major manufacturing agreements. He points out that the 62% data-center revenue surge and strategic deals with Marvell Technology and government-backed initiatives underpin quality future flows. Karapetjanc considers the year-to-date 23% gain and heavy bullish options activity as positive signals. He is confident the current consolidation sets the stage for further structural growth if resistance levels are cleared. "With a clear fundamental kicker, bullish structure remains intact and I expect further upside as new projects ramp up," he states.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, identifies short-term opportunity driven by heightened buyer activity and news momentum. He observes the stock’s price is pinned near the upper range after a strong gap higher, even as oscillators flash caution and sentiment sways. Turakhiya notes sentiment-driven setups are possible if $47.41 is breached, but warns mixed indicators suggest a wide outcome distribution over the next week. "Short-term traders should watch for a decisive break from this range, as sentiment and technicals may realign quickly," he advises.

Mixed signals as short-term momentum meets long-term resistance

GFS is trading above its 20-day moving average (MA-20) at $45.29, but remains below both its 50-day (MA-50) at $51.04 and 200-day (MA-200) at $53.72. This indicates short-term buying interest, but continued medium- and long-term pressure from sellers, with resistance seen at the Ichimoku Kijun ($48.86) and the nearby level of $47.41. Support is found at $45.29. Momentum indicators are mixed: MACD (-2.39, Strong Sell) and ADX (27.32, Sell) remain bearish, while RSI is at 45.37 (Sell), not indicating clear overbought or oversold conditions. The Stochastic RSI reads 100, flagging overbought, and BBP at 1.97 shows buyers dominating intraday momentum. CCI (30.82, Neutral) and the Awesome Oscillator (neutral) suggest weaker directional bias. The stock opened with an upside gap and has held near the top of its range, reflecting strong buyer interest despite divergent momentum signals.

Earlier, analysts noted that GlobalFoundries was exhibiting persistent technical weakness and a bearish broader trend amid sustained selling pressure. The current technical setup continues to highlight medium- and long-term resistance, making a breakout above $47.41 the primary level to watch for any shift in trend direction.
