New product rollout and strategic expansion
As reported by Cboe, citing Cboe Global Markets, listed options trading averages a record 72.8 million contracts a day in the second quarter of 2026, up more than 19% from a year earlier, as the exchange operator positions itself for further growth in derivatives innovation.Cboe says recent meetings with investors, customers and market participants in Chicago, Houston and New York highlight growing demand for wider market access, greater product choice and continued innovation, while maintaining trust, transparency and resilience in U.S. capital markets.
At Robinhood's HOOD Summit in Houston, the company discusses rising sophistication among individual investors, with attention focused on options growth, 0DTE strategies and the tools active traders want next. During the event, Cboe and Robinhood announce plans for a new category of binary security options linked to company-specific key performance indicators, allowing investors to trade directly on individual operating metrics.
Subject to regulatory approval, Cboe plans to launch the contracts on Cboe Options later this month, covering more than 100 metrics across 23 companies. The company says the instruments address a gap in the market because investors currently lack a direct way to trade backward-looking measures of corporate operating performance.
Market structure debate and long-term industry impact
At the Bloomberg Derivatives Market Structure Conference, Cboe joins executives from Kalshi and Coinbase in discussing perpetual futures and the balance between financial innovation and market design. The company argues that product expansion must be matched by sound structure and functionality to preserve market confidence.Cboe says the growth of options, including 0DTE contracts, shows investors are seeking precision, flexibility and more control over risk rather than leverage alone. In its view, the opportunity is to build a broader set of products that serve distinct investor needs within a resilient market framework.
The company also points to its recently extended 25-year partnership with S&P Dow Jones Indices as a key support for future expansion of the SPX and VIX ecosystem. Cboe says the agreement secures a long-term foundation for new product development, broader access and continued leadership in the U.S. options market.
Our earlier coverage of Weiss Ratings’ Apex IPO System explained how the firm uses a backtested scoring model to screen SEC-filed IPOs before they begin trading and flag offerings that appear driven more by hype than fundamentals. The article outlined its three-tier classification (from “Uninvestable” to “Investable”) and argued that only a small share of IPOs delivers sustained market-beating returns, underscoring demand for frameworks that help investors assess new opportunities more selectively.
