Okta pullback tests $190 support as cybersecurity stocks slide
Okta tests support level

Cybersecurity stocks are retreating after a weak market reaction to Fortinet's latest results, putting fresh pressure on Okta after a sharp run-up this year. The sell-off comes as investors weigh Okta's valuation, acquisition speculation and a key technical level ahead of the company's Dec. 1 earnings report.

Highlights

  • Okta shares test $190 support amid a broad cybersecurity sell-off following weak Fortinet results, with attention on the integrity of its uptrend since May.
  • Okta raises full-year guidance to $3.22–$3.23 billion revenue and $3.90–$3.94 non-GAAP EPS after posting $805 million revenue, $1.05 EPS, and $227 million free cash flow last quarter.
  • Okta trades at 57 times FY27 earnings guidance with 10–11% projected revenue growth, facing a pivotal December 1 earnings report after a 36% rally since last quarter.

Sector sell-off puts focus on Okta's setup

As reported by CNBC, Fortinet's results trigger a broad pullback across cybersecurity shares, with Okta falling alongside Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike and Zscaler after the bell. The move shifts attention to whether buyers defend the stock near $190, a level tied to Okta's rising 50-day moving average and the uptrend that began after its May breakout.

Okta has emerged as a central name in identity security as large vendors race to expand in that segment through acquisitions. Palo Alto paid $25 billion for CyberArk in a deal that closed on Feb. 11, while Cisco, SailPoint, ServiceNow, Cyera and Okta itself also pursue identity-related assets during 2026. The push reflects a broader shift in enterprise security, where remote access and software agents make identity controls more critical.

Okta serves more than 20,000 customers, including about two thirds of the Fortune 100, and its software manages access to corporate applications and data for both workers and customers. Workforce identity accounts for 59% of annual contract value and is growing 11% year over year, while customer identity makes up 41% and is growing 13%.

Valuation and December earnings remain the next test

Recent financial results support the stock's rally, but they also leave expectations elevated. In its last quarter, Okta posts revenue of $805 million, up 11%, and adjusted earnings per share of $1.05, both ahead of market expectations, while current remaining performance obligations rise 14% and free cash flow reaches $227 million, a 28% margin.

Management raises full-year guidance to $3.22 billion to $3.23 billion in revenue and $3.90 to $3.94 in non-GAAP earnings per share. CEO Todd McKinnon says Okta for AI Agents is still too small to materially affect reported figures, even as newer products account for about 30% of bookings, led by Identity Governance.

At about $222 a share, the company trades at roughly 57 times the midpoint of its FY27 non-GAAP earnings guidance, with revenue growth projected at 10% to 11%. Okta reports third-quarter earnings on Dec. 1, guiding to $813 million to $817 million in revenue and $0.92 to $0.94 in earnings per share, and investors are watching closely because the stock is up about 36% since its last report.

From a trading perspective, a close below $190 would call the recent uptrend into question. The stock briefly moved below that level on Oct. 20 before recovering the next day, with nearby lows at $185 and $184 offering additional reference points if selling pressure deepens.

In our earlier article on Q3 2026 cybersecurity funding, we covered how startups raised $6.8 billion as fewer deals were offset by much larger late-stage rounds. We also noted that AI-oriented and identity security companies attracted a significant share of that capital, alongside continued consolidation through high-profile acquisitions—context that helps frame today’s heightened focus on identity security leaders like Okta.
