IonQ, Firefly and Moderna lead midday stock moves as earnings and guidance drive trading
Earnings shake up markets

A fresh round of earnings, outlook changes and deal announcements is driving sharp midday moves across U.S. equities. Quantum computing, aerospace, semiconductors, software, biotech and travel stocks are among the biggest gainers and losers as investors react to company updates.

Highlights

  • IonQ surges 17% after raising full-year revenue guidance to $505 million–$515 million, well above the $456.2 million FactSet consensus.
  • Firefly Aerospace jumps nearly 30% on securing a $1.3 billion engine supply and IP deal with AST SpaceMobile, which climbs 6%.
  • Microchip Technology plunges 14% after issuing current-quarter EPS and revenue guidance below analyst estimates, dragging some semiconductor peers despite AI stock rebound.

Airbnb climbs 11% after third-quarter earnings of $3.16 per share exceed the analyst consensus of $2.85, while revenue of $4.87 billion also tops estimates of $4.75 billion, according to LSEG data. Iren also gains 19% after reporting fiscal first-quarter revenue of $228 million, up from $137 million in the prior quarter, despite saying that more than $4 billion in annual recurring revenue projected to arrive in 2026 has been delayed until at least January 2027.

Semiconductor weakness and AI rebound split the market

Not all technology names are advancing. Microchip Technology tumbles 14% after issuing disappointing current-quarter guidance, including expected third-quarter non-GAAP earnings of 87 cents to 95 cents per share and revenue of $1.573 billion to $1.638 billion, compared with FactSet consensus estimates of 94 cents a share and $1.63 billion.

Lam Research rises nearly 9% after its board authorizes a $25 billion stock buyback, while Nvidia rebounds more than 3% and returns to positive territory for 2026. Other artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks including Micron Technology, Sandisk, Marvell Technology, Advanced Micro Devices, Nebius and CoreWeave also move higher after Thursday's sell-off tied to concerns about potential limits on AI data-center expansion.

Elsewhere, Five9 drops more than 17% after lowering full-year adjusted EPS guidance and announcing a $325 million cash acquisition of Level AI. Axon Enterprise falls 18% after missing Wall Street estimates on third-quarter EPS and revenue, issuing weak fourth-quarter guidance and committing an additional $1.2 billion investment in drone maker Skydio, raising its stake to about 37%.

DraftKings slumps 27% after posting a wider-than-expected third-quarter loss and revenue below forecasts, while Lyft falls almost 5% after third-quarter revenue misses analyst expectations. Atlassian loses more than 14% after warning that year-over-year data center revenue growth is expected to decline about 14% in its fiscal second quarter ending in December and 16% in the fiscal year ending next June.

In our earlier article on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) rebound, we noted that the index was recovering after a pullback as traders positioned ahead of major earnings releases and potential Federal Reserve decisions. That piece emphasized how corporate outlooks and guidance can amplify moves across large-cap tech, while mixed momentum indicators pointed to choppy trading and a consolidation range with key support and resistance levels to watch.
