Fintech and Crypto Ventures by David Marcus
David Marcus, former PayPal president and Meta’s Diem architect, now leads Lightspark—a company focused on enabling scalable Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network. In 2025, Marcus introduced the “Build on Spark” toolkit, allowing businesses to integrate Lightning rails into fiat interfaces. This infrastructure has been adopted by at least 22 fintech developers within six months of launch, covering remittances, merchant checkout, and wallet integrations.
At Stablecon 2025, Marcus described Bitcoin as “what the world needs” to build programmable money for settlement-grade transfers. Lightspark’s infrastructure roadmap includes Spark SDKs and wallet compliance features designed for real-time cross-border flows. As of Q3 2025, Lightspark’s backend supports up to 700 transactions per second, optimized for microfee routing over Lightning channels.
Marcus remains one of the most prominent voices advocating Bitcoin’s utility beyond investment—recasting it as a payment network with institutional-grade tooling.
