Venture capital, crypto, and technology insights by Eddy Lazzarin
Eddy Lazzarin is Chief Technology Officer at a16z Crypto, where he leads engineering, security, and research teams supporting a portfolio of more than 100 blockchain startups. Prior to joining Andreessen Horowitz, he worked in data science at Pinterest and Palantir. At a16z, Lazzarin has directed the creation of open-source tools such as Helios, an Ethereum light client adopted by over 15,000 developers, and Halmos, a formal verification framework for smart contracts. These tools are designed to reduce vulnerability risks and improve scalability across decentralized systems.
Lazzarin’s technical team has produced more than 40 research articles and code libraries in the last three years, covering topics from zero-knowledge proof frameworks to modular blockchain architectures. Public speaking engagements include ETHGlobal, Stanford Blockchain Week, and the a16z Crypto Startup School, where he instructs early founders on governance design and infrastructure optimization. In 2024, Lazzarin publicly criticized memecoins as “casino-style speculation,” arguing that engineering resources should focus on resilient protocols and privacy-preserving applications. He also advised on consumer payment design, stating that crypto payment interfaces must reach mainstream usability before mass adoption. With growing influence in the engineering community, Lazzarin is recognized as one of the leading technical voices driving protocol infrastructure within venture-backed crypto ecosystems.
