Cybersecurity Innovation and Tech Leadership by Ken Xie
Ken Xie is the billionaire founder, chairman, and CEO of Fortinet, a leading global cybersecurity firm headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Fortinet, listed on NASDAQ under FTNT, employs over 14,000 people and reported $5.3 billion in revenue in FY 2024. The company’s clients include more than 70% of Fortune 100 firms, and it operates in over 100 countries.
Before Fortinet, Xie founded NetScreen Technologies, a pioneer in ASIC-based firewall/VPN appliances, which was sold to Juniper Networks in 2004 for $4 billion. A Stanford-trained engineer, Xie holds more than 30 patents in networking and security. His personal net worth is estimated at $7.4 billion as of July 2025.
Xie has spoken publicly about the security challenges of decentralized technologies but has not formally entered the crypto space. Fortinet does offer threat protection tools that can be applied in blockchain-integrated infrastructure, particularly in IoT and cloud crypto custody. However, neither Fortinet nor Xie have publicly invested in or developed blockchain-native tools or protocols.
