Political Vision and Advocacy from Mmusi Maimane

Mmusi Maimane, leader of the Build One South Africa (BOSA) party, has refocused his political message on education and fiscal reform in 2025. As Chairperson of the Parliamentary Appropriations Committee, he raised alarms over potential financial collapse in the City of Johannesburg, calling for capacity boosts across municipalities. In January, Maimane introduced the “Fair Pay Bill” to raise the matric pass threshold from 30% to 50%, aiming for more equitable access to universities. In April, BOSA proposed a R180 billion plan to reverse VAT hikes, demonstrating cross-party strategy-building.

Maimane rose to national prominence as the first black leader of South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2019, positioning the party as a centrist alternative to the ANC. He left the DA citing internal racial divisions and a lack of transformative vision, founding BOSA in 2022. With a background in theology and leadership studies, he blends policy advocacy with strong grassroots messaging. Known for his sharp parliamentary speeches and digital engagement, Maimane has built a platform centered on accountability, education reform, and inclusive economic growth.
