Business journalism, markets, and global economy insights by Susan Li
Susan Li is Chief Financial Officer of Meta Platforms, appointed in November 2022 at age 36 after serving as the company’s vice president of finance. Meta reported annual revenue of $134.9 billion in 2023, with more than 3 billion monthly active users across its platforms. Li oversees financial operations for divisions including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Reality Labs, which employs more than 70,000 staff globally. Li previously worked at Morgan Stanley and joined Meta in 2008.
Although Meta has developed extensive initiatives in Web3, including digital collectibles and metaverse infrastructure, Li’s leadership has focused on financial reporting, cost efficiency, and capital allocation. There are no public records of personal investment in crypto markets, tokens, or blockchain startups. Under her financial stewardship, Reality Labs incurred operating losses exceeding $16 billion in 2023 while continuing to invest in virtual reality and metaverse technologies. For the crypto ecosystem, Li’s role at Meta is relevant because corporate spending decisions on digital infrastructure can influence adoption trends in blockchain-enabled environments.
