Private equity, sports, and business leadership by Tom Gores
Tom Gores is founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Platinum Equity, a private equity firm managing approximately $50 billion in assets. Since its founding in 1995, Platinum has acquired more than 350 companies across manufacturing, logistics, technology, and media, with a current portfolio of more than 40 firms. Born in 1964, Gores graduated from Michigan State University and later established himself as one of the wealthiest U.S. businessmen, with a net worth of $10.1 billion reported in September 2025.
In addition to business, Gores owns the NBA’s Detroit Pistons. While Platinum Equity has not announced blockchain or cryptocurrency acquisitions, its focus on data infrastructure and enterprise technology remains relevant to future integration of distributed ledger systems. Gores represents traditional institutional capital that could expand into tokenized assets as regulatory clarity develops.
