Interactive Brokers review: New AI function simplifies portfolio insights

Designed to simplify what can be a complex process of portfolio review and performance measurement, Ask IBKR allows users to retrieve detailed insights using plain English questions rather than navigating dashboards and reports. The feature is now available to select users in the Client Portal, Advisor Portal, and on IBKR Desktop, with wider rollout planned.
Natural language insights and portfolio intelligence
Ask IBKR represents a significant step in applying generative AI to investment platforms. Rather than requiring users to interpret charts and numerous screens, the tool accepts natural language queries—such as “How did my portfolio perform versus the S&P 500?” or “Which of my holdings pay the highest dividends?”—and returns immediate, data-driven answers. This is aimed at both reducing the time investors spend sifting through data and improving decision-making with timely insights.
The system supports a broad range of query categories, including portfolio metrics, allocation analysis, holdings exploration, activity tracking, and performance attribution. Users can examine sector exposures, benchmark comparisons, trade histories, fees, and cash flows—all through conversational queries. Ask IBKR also offers intelligent suggestions as clients type, auto-completing parameters such as benchmarks and time frames to facilitate faster, more precise questions.
