Highlights

  • KC/USX trades below short-term moving average but remains above medium- and long-term support, indicating near-term weakness within a supported structure.
  • Momentum indicators present a mixed picture with overbought oscillators despite ongoing upward momentum and intraday recovery lagging price action.
  • Expected trading range for the next 2 to 3 days is USX306.06 to USX317.85, with a 68% probability of an upward move.

Bullish divergence as overbought signals clash with mixed momentum

The MA-20 is at USX313.91, above the current price, while the MA-50 and MA-200 at USX307.28 and USX300.41 respectively provide support below. The Ichimoku Kijun at USX310.58 now aligns closely as immediate support. Momentum indicators are mixed: MACD, ADX, and Awesome Oscillator show upward momentum, and the RSI indicates a buy bias. Both CCI and Bull/Bear Power are at overbought levels, signaling strong buyer dominance, but Stochastic RSI remains neutral. This combination of overbought oscillators and mixed momentum points to a possible divergence, with current price action lagging bullish signals.

Consolidation expected as upside probability outweighs downside risk

In the short term, price behavior is likely to consolidate within the corridor of USX306.06 to USX317.85, aligning with the typical volatility band relative to current levels. There is a higher probability for an upward move, at 68%, while the chance of a break lower stands at 32%. A sustained move above resistance could drive further gains, while a drop below support may trigger renewed selling interest.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that coffee remains supported by long-term moving averages while facing resistance at short-term levels. He sees technical indicators giving mixed signals, with overbought oscillators and flat momentum suggesting caution. Kharitonov believes current consolidation could persist unless price breaks firmly above resistance or below support. "With momentum signals diverging from price action, I prefer to wait for a clear breakout before taking a directional view."

Previously it was reported that coffee futures maintained a broadly bullish trajectory while consolidating above key moving averages. The latest technical signals further support this view, but with overbought oscillators and mixed momentum, traders should closely monitor the USX310.58 support level for signs of a definitive move either higher or lower.
