Highlights

  • Fund traders hold nearly 400,000 contracts in soybean, soybean oil, and soybean meal, concentrating speculative positions in the soybean complex.
  • Large fund exposure may influence short-term price behavior and sustain market liquidity as fundamentals remain under scrutiny.
  • Soybean futures trade below key moving averages with mixed momentum; price expected to range between $1,190 and $1,211, with downside risk prevailing.

Large fund concentration shapes liquidity and steadies near-term prices

As of midweek, fund traders maintained positions totaling nearly 400,000 contracts in soybean, soybean oil, and soybean meal, according to Southeastagnet. This concentration in speculative holdings suggests an ongoing influence from large funds in shaping short-term price dynamics within the soybean complex. The sizeable contract exposure may impact market liquidity and contribute to steadier price behavior, even as the underlying fundamentals remain closely watched.

Mixed momentum amid overbought signals and resistance at MA-20

ZS/USX is trading below the MA-20 at USX1,204 and the MA-50 at USX1,208 on the H1 chart, with the price also remaining under the MA-200 at USX1,211 on the daily chart. The Ichimoku Kijun level at USX1,204 serves as immediate resistance. Momentum indicators are mixed: MACD signals a Strong Sell, while ADX is neutral. RSI provides a neutral reading, but both Stoch RSI and CCI are in the overbought zone, suggesting overheating risks. Bull/Bear Power remains positive at 3.92, indicating continued intraday buying momentum, and the Awesome Oscillator shows a Strong Buy, supporting an intraday upside attempt despite broader trend weakness.

Downside favored as rebound odds remain low within set range

In the near term, the expected trading range for ZS is USX1,190 to USX1,211 during the next 2 to 3 sessions, aligning with typical volatility relative to current levels. The probability of a rebound is very low, while a further decline is considered highly likely. A break above resistance at USX1,204 would indicate renewed buying pressure, but a drop below support at USX1,190 could accelerate downside momentum. The base case is for price action to remain sideways within these bounds.

Anton Kharitonov, analyst at Traders Union, sees Soybean Futures struggling below key moving averages with technical signals offering a mixed and indecisive picture. He notes that fund traders continue to hold large, concentrated exposures in the soybean complex, which can influence short-term stability but does little to offset the weak momentum. The analyst remains cautious as the probability of a rebound is low and price action is likely to stay sideways or drift lower in the near term. "Until we see a decisive move above USX1,204, downside risks remain the dominant scenario for ZS," he says.

Earlier, analysts noted that Soybean Futures were under sustained technical pressure within a defined trading range. The latest market action reinforces this cautious outlook, with traders advised to monitor the USX1,204 resistance level as a potential signal for any near-term change in trend direction.
