Prize offer scams exploiting upfront fee requests spur Sierra Bancorp warning
Sierra Bancorp warns consumers to be vigilant about fraudulent sweepstakes scams that request fees or taxes before awarding a prize. Legitimate winnings, the company cautions, never require upfront payments.
The warning comes as incidents of scam attempts continue to target individuals by phone, email, or letter. Sierra Bancorp urges the public to verify any prize notifications and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unsolicited contacts.
The company has previously warned customers about scams leveraging calls, texts, email, and mail to steal account and personal data, according to a recent notice. In an unrelated company update, Sierra Bancorp recently named Jeanie Gonzales and Gladys Barrientos as employees of the quarter for their performance. Both updates reflect the bank’s ongoing communications with the public.
