Hawaiian Electric backs solar sprint

Hawaiian Electric sponsored the annual solar sprint at Kapolei Middle School, where students from five local schools designed and raced their own solar powered cars on a short course.

The competition saw participation from Kapolei Middle School, Ewa Makai Middle School, Ilima Intermediate, Waianae Intermediate, and Waipahu Intermediate, encouraging hands-on learning in renewable energy and engineering. The utility firm stated it looks forward to supporting similar initiatives that foster STEM education and innovation in the community.

The company has taken steps to expand its talent pipeline, recently launching a hiring campaign to strengthen its workforce. Hawaiian Electric has also engaged with professionals in the clean energy sector during its participation at the Kamaaina Come Home event in Las Vegas. These efforts align with the utility’s continued support for STEM and renewable energy initiatives.
