Ouster drops compute box with Rev8

Ouster, Inc. has revealed that its new Rev8 solution removes the requirement for a separate compute box in collision-avoidance systems.

With Rev8, advanced 3D Zone Monitoring runs directly on the sensor, allowing users to define up to 128 custom zones of any shape and monitor up to 16 zones simultaneously. This integration is designed to streamline machine safety infrastructure and simplify deployment. The firm aims to enhance efficiency and reduce hardware complexity in autonomous and industrial applications with this innovation.

Ouster previously introduced Rev8 technology that removed the need for a separate compute box by running 3D Zone Monitor directly on the sensor, according to a company announcement. The integration aimed to simplify deployment for machine safety systems. Following the unveiling, Ouster shares jumped 9.79% to $39.01 after the company enabled simultaneous color and lidar capture in Rev8, as reported earlier.
