Backblaze enables 12 year HDD study

Backblaze, Inc. announced that researchers have published a peer reviewed study analyzing 12 years of its open source Drive Stats data, covering more than 1.66 million drive years to assess the reliability of hard disk drives (HDDs).

The company highlighted that its publicly available data set continues to be a valuable resource for the tech and academic communities. The recent study offers new insights into long term HDD performance, further reinforcing the utility of open source transparency for hardware reliability research.

Backblaze has been chosen by Wynd Labs to handle daily AI data ingestion volumes of 2–3PB, emphasizing its zero delete fees and integration capabilities, according to a recent report. Additionally, the company supports Hume_AI’s machine learning operations, enabling 10 GB/s upload speeds and eliminating egress fees via its B2 cloud storage platform, as detailed in another update. These deployments highlight Backblaze’s ongoing role in large-scale data infrastructure across AI workloads.
