Ouster introduces lidar sensor with improved resolution for mapping narrow objects
Ouster debuts Rev8 OS1 Max lidar

Ouster announced the launch of its Rev8 OS1 Max lidar sensor, featuring a spot size up to 50 percent smaller than the previous generation. This advancement is intended to enhance aerial mapping of challenging targets such as power lines, crossarms, and utility poles.

By reducing the spot size, the new sensor enables clearer differentiation of narrow objects against background noise, offering increased accuracy for infrastructure mapping from the air.

Earlier this year, Ouster added an SDK feature to streamline lidar data export for GIS and point cloud use, as detailed in a previous product update. The company also demonstrated live lidar-powered intersection safety in partnership with Gangneung City at the ITS World Congress in South Korea, according to a joint pilot exhibition. These initiatives signal Ouster's ongoing focus on enhancing lidar technology for infrastructure and safety applications.
