Nasdaq and Seturion partner to develop tokenized assets market in Europe
Nasdaq enters token market

Nasdaq has announced a partnership with Seturion, a settlement platform created by the Boerse Stuttgart Group, as part of efforts to modernize the post-trade infrastructure of European capital markets. The parties plan to use distributed ledger technology (DLT) to process settlements and securities transactions.

Interest in such solutions is growing alongside the expansion of asset tokenization. Market participants expect that digital infrastructure will help simplify settlement processes and reduce operational costs, particularly in Europe, where post-trade systems remain fragmented.

Nasdaq to connect to the seturion platform

The Seturion platform was recently introduced by the Boerse Stuttgart Group as a pan-European infrastructure for settling tokenized assets. It is designed for a broad range of market participants and supports operations with assets on both public and private distributed ledgers. The platform also supports cash settlement — both using central bank money and through blockchain infrastructure.

As part of the partnership, Nasdaq’s European trading venues will connect to Seturion to process settlements for tokenized securities. At the initial stage, the partners will focus on structured products while gradually expanding the network of participants on the platform, including issuers, brokers and financial institutions.

Roland Chai, President of European Market Services and Head of Digital Assets at Nasdaq, said:

“European capital markets face fragmentation and efficiency challenges that limit the region’s competitive potential. Tokenization presents a transformative opportunity to address inefficiencies in settlement and securities processing workflows, while preserving the trust, stability, and regulatory rigor that underpin well-functioning markets. This partnership builds on our broader vision for the future of market infrastructure, encompassing continuous operation across trading, clearing, settlement, risk management, and collateral. As an operator of critical market infrastructure and a leading financial technology provider, Nasdaq is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation.”

Dr. Matthias Voelkel, CEO of Boerse Stuttgart Group, added:

“With Seturion, we are building the pan-European settlement platform for tokenized assets. As an open industry solution, Seturion contributes to overcome current national settlement infrastructure silos and to turn a unified European capital market into reality. We are delighted to welcome Nasdaq – an absolute leader in its field – as Seturion’s first partner and look forward to scaling Seturion across Europe.”

Dr. Lydia Kurek, CEO of Seturion, emphasized:

“Financial markets should no longer rely on legacy post-trade infrastructure that was not designed for a digital world. Seturion was created to fundamentally improve how transactions are settled by removing friction, reducing complexity, and enabling a new level of efficiency. Our partnership with Nasdaq marks a defining step in bringing this vision to life. Together with our partner - and many more joining us going forward - we are establishing the post-trade infrastructure of the digital age.”

Why tokenization is becoming important for European markets

The initiative by Nasdaq and Seturion reflects a broader trend toward the digitalization of financial infrastructure. Europe’s capital markets have long developed through national settlement systems, creating a complex and costly post-trade environment.

Distributed ledger technology is increasingly seen as a way to shorten settlement times and simplify interactions between market participants. According to estimates by Boston Consulting Group, the global market for tokenized real-world assets could exceed $16 trillion by 2030.

Against this backdrop, banks, exchanges and investment firms are actively testing digital platforms for trading and settlement. If solutions like Seturion gain wider adoption, they could reshape the infrastructure of European capital markets — from faster settlements to simplified issuance and trading of tokenized securities.
