  • Fraudsters impersonating Ripple staff to deceive users.
  • Company urges users to stick to official communication channels.

Ripple distances itself from Telegram

RippleX, a subsidiary of Ripple, has alerted users about the growing number of fake accounts on social media platforms such as Telegram. The company noted that fraudsters are creating fake accounts impersonating Ripple recruiters, support staff, and other representatives.

These accounts typically use Ripple branding and images, including photos of Ripple's CEO Brad Garlinghouse, as well as legitimate media interview videos or public event recordings, to increase the trustworthiness of fake accounts. Such channels often promise cryptocurrency giveaways related to various events or anniversaries, offering rewards for participation in surveys and promotions.

RippleX clarified that the company does not have an official channel on Telegram. Users were also warned that the real Ripple team will not contact users or provide support through unofficial channels, nor will they request personal information, login details, or payments."

Any account claiming to be the official Ripple Telegram channel is fraudulent," Ripple stated in a tweet, listing the company's official online channels and social media accounts.

The rise of cryptocurrency scams

This warning from Ripple highlights a concerning trend in the cryptocurrency industry, where fraud continues to grow. As cryptocurrencies become more popular, fraudsters are finding new ways to manipulate trusting users. The widespread use of fake accounts with established brands like Ripple is just one part of a broader issue that makes it challenging to protect users' personal data.

Ripple also reminded users that the only safe way to communicate with the company is through official channels, and advised them to stay alert to avoid falling victim to scams. Additionally, the company emphasized the importance of user awareness and education to increase security knowledge and prevent further fraud in the crypto community.
