Pavel Durov stated that the TON blockchain finalizes transactions in just 0.6 seconds, making it the fastest Layer-1 network among those currently tracked. According to his comparison, Bitcoin requires approximately one hour for final confirmation, while Cardano takes a full day.
Durov published a ranking of major Layer-1 blockchains by finality time. TON significantly outperformed competitors: Avalanche, BNB Smart Chain, and Sui confirm transactions in under two seconds; Hedera, XRP Ledger and Stellar do so in under five seconds. Solana takes 13 seconds, TRON about one minute, Ethereum 13 minutes, Litecoin 15 minutes, and Monero 20 minutes.
Bitcoin and Cardano placed at the bottom of the list.
These results are the outcome of the recent Catchain 2.0 upgrade, which reduced block creation time to roughly 400 milliseconds and finality to under one second.
Durov confirmed that Telegram has become the largest validator on the TON network after staking approximately 2.2 million TON. This move gives the messaging platform substantial influence over the blockchain.
Following Durov’s announcement, Toncoin (TON) surged sharply. The token rose 20.5% in 24 hours and was trading at $2.62 at the time of writing. The market interpreted the statements as a strong signal of deeper integration between Telegram and the TON blockchain.

Durov’s comparison and Telegram’s increased role as validator highlight TON’s technical advantage in speed and its growing strategic importance within the Telegram ecosystem. The sharp price reaction shows strong market confidence in the project’s development direction.
At the same time, Telegram’s dominant validator position raises questions regarding the network’s decentralization, even as TON demonstrates superior performance and user adoption potential.
Earlier, we reported that Telegram boosts revenue to $870M, but the IPO faces delays.
