Ethereum holds $1,850 as breakout risk builds ahead of U.S. CPI
ETH is trading at the bottom range of the $1,850-1,950 levels, institutional flows are tepid, and 30 day vol continues to compress, suggesting that when the consolidation ends a move of greater significance is likely.
The US spot ETH ETFs reported net outflows of approximately $1.7 million on August 11, the second consecutive day of outflows. On its own, an outflow of $1.7 million does little for ETH.
The more significant development is that the direction of inflows is shifting. On the previous day the ETFs saw $14.6 million outflows as they snapped a 4 day inflow stream. For now, this is more akin to demand taking a pause rather than a distinct turning point of the trend.

ETH remains trapped between $1,850 and $1,950
ETH has found support at the aforementioned downside of the $1,850-1,950 range but sellers nor buyers have generated enough momentum to break decisively from this range as of yet. Price remains in consolidation mode awaiting a shift through the $1,850 or $1,950.
A decisive break and consolidation below $1,850 would increase the odds of a potential move down toward the $1,700. Conversely, a break and hold above $1,950 would lead the way to $2,000 and acceleration from that level would see a move up toward $2,100.
The combination of a loss of demand along with compression in 30-day volatility could set ETH up for a powerful explosive move to either the upside or downside. As of now 30 day vol sits at 1.72%, which is back at lows last seen around early June of 2026.
U.S. CPI could trigger a breakout from consolidation
The significant Macroeconomic event on the calendar will be the release of the July US consumer price index data on August 12.
With extended consolidation and low vol, the CPI data release has the potential to be the exogenous catalyst to spark a breakout from the current $1,850-1,950 range.
