Zcash hits $1,256 as extreme overheating raises correction risk

Zcash fully played out the previous bullish setup, breaking above $1,000 and accelerating to $1,256. After such a vertical advance, however, extreme technical overheating and elevated leverage are significantly increasing the risk of a correction.

ZEC entered the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization after another sharp move higher. Around $54.3 million in positions were liquidated over 24 hours, with shorts accounting for $48.9 million, or roughly 90% of the total. The forced closure of bearish positions created additional buying pressure and amplified an already powerful price move.

Leverage has also increased sharply. By September 7, ZEC open interest had approached $2.7 billion, while futures volume stood near $7 billion and significantly exceeded spot turnover. This structure can support momentum while the market is rising, but it also makes ZEC much more vulnerable to cascading liquidations once meaningful profit-taking begins.

Extreme overheating puts $1,000 back in focus

The setup outlined in the previous analysis fully played out. ZEC broke above the psychological $1,000 level, after which momentum accelerated and the price reached roughly $1,256.

At this stage, the base case becomes a correction back toward $1,000. The RSI (14) is already in overbought territory, while the price is trading more than 163% above the 200-day MA, pointing to an extreme deviation from its long-term average.

Another risk comes from the nature of the latest advance, as a significant part of the move was amplified by a short squeeze.

After tens of millions of dollars in short positions were liquidated, that source of forced demand is gradually fading, increasing the probability that the market shifts toward profit-taking.

Extreme positioning leaves ZEC vulnerable to a pullback

Fundamental interest in Zcash remains strong, while ZEC’s move into the top 10 and broader access through regulated investment products continue to support the wider bullish narrative. In the short term, however, the price is becoming increasingly vulnerable because of the speed of the recent advance.

High open interest, an overbought RSI and the extreme distance from the 200-day MA create conditions in which even moderate profit-taking could quickly develop into a deeper correction.
