Stacks token STX extends rally as bitcoin layer-2 demand builds
Trading in digital assets remains uneven, but Stacks' native token STX is continuing to outperform the broader cryptocurrency market. The token rises nearly 10% in 24 hours and more than 50% over four weeks as investors focus on the project's bitcoin staking model and a November bonding milestone.
Highlights
- Investor demand for Stacks (STX) rises as its non-custodial bitcoin staking model allows BTC holders to earn yield while retaining private keys.
- Bonding Period 3, due in November, requires STX holders to lock STX worth roughly 5% of their BTC, reducing active STX supply and linking scarcity to bitcoin liquidity.
- STX, BDX, REDNER, and PYTH each gained around 6% in the past 24 hours, but sector sentiment remains tied to Wednesday's upcoming U.S. CPI data.
Stacks staking model drives token demand
As reported by CoinDesk, investor interest is centering on Stacks' non-custodial bitcoin staking architecture, which allows BTC holders to earn yield on the main Bitcoin blockchain while keeping control of their private keys. That structure differs from more traditional yield frameworks that often require users to wrap assets into synthetic tokens or move funds across cross-chain bridges. Stacks instead uses a mechanism known as bonding, under which participants lock assets to help secure the network.
Bonding Period 3, due in November, requires participants holding native STX to lock a specific ratio of STX alongside their BTC, equal to roughly 5% of the total value of their bitcoin, in order to secure protocol stacking capacity. That dynamic removes more STX from the active market as additional BTC enters the ecosystem, tightening supply while linking token scarcity more directly to bitcoin liquidity.
Broader crypto market watches U.S. inflation data
Periods 1 and 2 serve as preparatory phases designed to transition signers safely and build initial liquidity ahead of the next stage. The setup is supporting expectations that sustained ecosystem growth could continue to favor STX relative to larger cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, ether and XRP.STX is not the only token advancing over the past 24 hours, with BDX, REDNER and PYTH also gaining about 6% each. Even so, sentiment across the sector remains closely tied to macroeconomic signals, with analysts preparing for Wednesday's U.S. Consumer Price Index report, which could shape expectations for upcoming Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions.
U.S. Treasury yields eased as lower energy prices reduced pressure on borrowing costs, with investors returning after the holiday and positioning ahead of key U.S. data releases. Our earlier article highlighted that markets were bracing for September CPI figures and that the results could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next rate decisions and broader borrowing costs.
