Joby Aviation stock rises on Nvidia AI partnership announcement
Joby teams with Nvidia to advance autonomous flight technology

Joby Aviation shares have gained 2.5% since the start of the week, holding above key SMAs after Nvidia selected the company to test its new AI platform — Nvidia IGX Thor.

The announcement breathed new life into Joby shareholders ahead of the company’s Q3 earnings report on November 5 and expected updates on FAA certification progress.

Nvidia IGX Thor is an industrial platform for next-generation physical AI applications. Joby will leverage this collaboration to advance its Superpilot autonomous flight technology for both military and civilian platforms.

“The autonomous systems developed by Joby are designed to complement human intelligence — delivering speed, precision, and endurance beyond human capability alone,” said Gregor Veble Mikic, Head of Flight Research at Joby.

According to Mikic, aircraft require powerful onboard computers capable of processing vast amounts of data and making real-time decisions.By combining Nvidia’s computing power with Joby’s advanced design, certification, and rigorous flight-testing capabilities, the company aims to usher in a new era of safety-driven autonomy in aviation.

The Nvidia partnership enables autonomous flight control, radar data processing, and sensor fusion — allowing aircraft to determine optimal flight paths, adapt to changing weather and traffic conditions, improve environmental awareness, and monitor their own systems for predictive maintenance.

Beyond air taxis

Joby’s new project underscores its ambition to move beyond air taxis, expanding into both commercial and defense aviation solutions.

In August, Joby partnered with L3Harris (LHX) to develop a hybrid vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft for low-altitude and defense missions. The design supports both autonomous and piloted operations.

In September, Joby announced it had logged over 7,000 miles in autonomous flight and 40 hours of operational testing during defense exercises.
