New impact fund launched

A new private equity fund is being launched to channel long-term institutional capital into established high-growth companies in Central America and the Caribbean. The platform brings together Saudi Eksab, IDB Invest, IDC Network and CAF, with Valante Capital managing investments across consumer-focused sectors including food, distribution and retail.

Highlights

  • Saudi Eksab, IDB Invest, and IDC Network launch the IDC Impact Fund targeting established, high-growth consumer businesses in Central America and the Caribbean, with Valante Capital as fund manager.
  • The fund prioritizes investments in food, distribution, and retail sectors, aiming to drive business growth and meet international standards while enabling future institutional partnerships.
  • The new fund seeks to mobilize private capital for the region, strengthening food security, supporting job creation, and enhancing companies’ capital access and operational quality.

Fund structure and investment focus

As reported by CAF, the Saudi Eksab, IDC Impact Fund is being launched by Saudi Eksab for International Investments Company, IDB Invest and IDC Network as founding partners, with CAF participating to support development financing for growing private companies. Valante Capital, IDC Network’s private equity platform, is appointed as fund manager and is leading investment execution across the region.

The fund is targeting established businesses with strong growth prospects in consumer-driven sectors, especially food, distribution and retail. Its main geographic focus is Central America and the Caribbean, while also allowing for potential investments in the Andean region.

The partners say the platform combines long-term institutional capital with regional investment expertise and local execution capabilities. Beyond financing, Saudi Eksab, IDB Invest and CAF are working with the fund manager to strengthen operating practices and align the vehicle with international standards, while keeping it open to future participation from other institutional investors.

Regional capital mobilization and development goals

The launch reflects a broader push to connect Latin America and the Caribbean with more global private capital at a time when development institutions are seeking to expand funding channels for productive investment. The partners say the fund is designed to support business expansion while also delivering measurable socioeconomic impact in the region.

Executives involved in the launch say the vehicle is intended to strengthen food security, support the productive sector and help create quality jobs. They also present the partnership as a way to build stronger investment platforms in Northern Latin America and improve companies’ access to capital, regional expertise and operational standards.

Our earlier coverage of Eramet’s planned lithium expansion in Argentina detailed the company’s proposed $350 million investment to lift output at its Centenario project by adding 11,000 tons of annual lithium carbonate equivalent capacity, subject to a final investment decision. We also noted the project’s dependence on investment conditions such as potential inclusion in Argentina’s RIGI scheme, alongside Eramet’s broader efforts to shore up its finances through a capital increase and asset sales.
