BOX Exchange schedules mandatory virtual trading floor test for November 12
BOX mandates virtual test

BOX Exchange is requiring all BOX Trading Floor Participants to join its annual Virtual Trading Floor test from off-site locations on November 12, 2026. The two-hour exercise is set to run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST and includes participation rules for floor brokers, market makers and active permit holders.

Highlights

  • BOX Exchange will conduct a mandatory Virtual Trading Floor test on November 12, requiring all floor participant firms to have an approved active representative participate off-site.
  • Firms must submit IPv4 address confirmation from their off-site locations to the BOX Market Operations Center by November 6, 2026, ensuring pre-test compliance.
  • Failure to participate in the test may result in summary suspension or disciplinary action under Rule Series 11000 and 12000, making it a compliance obligation for trading firms.

Test requirements and participation rules

As announced by BOX Exchange, each floor participant firm must have at least one approved Trading Floor Market Maker or Floor Broker Representative who is currently active on the trading floor take part in the mandatory test. Clerks do not meet that requirement, though all active trading permit holders are encouraged to participate.

Participants must log in to the Virtual Trading Floor environment from off-site locations rather than from the BOX trading floor itself. Floor brokers are required to simulate two open outcry executions, while floor market makers must connect and simulate verbal trading.

BOX also urges participants to review the Virtual Trading Floor User Guide before the session. Firms must provide IPv4 address confirmation from their off-site location to the BOX Market Operations Center by Friday, November 6, 2026.

Compliance implications for trading firms

Failure to conduct or participate in the test can expose required participants to summary suspension or other action under Rule Series 11000, as well as disciplinary action under Rule Series 12000. The notice makes the exercise a compliance matter for firms with active personnel on the trading floor.

Questions about the process can be directed to the Market Operations Center by phone or email. The annual test is designed to confirm that trading floor participants can access and operate in the virtual environment if off-site trading floor activity is required.

Our earlier coverage of CVS’s $315 million settlement over opioid and other controlled-substance prescriptions outlined allegations that unlawful dispensing and flawed internal controls led to improper billing to federal healthcare programs. We also noted that the deal includes new compliance obligations, such as enhanced oversight of dispensing patterns and additional reporting mechanisms under a DEA agreement.
