Drawdowns shifted from significant to routine levels, Peter Brandt notes
Brandt reflects on trading drawdowns

Peter Brandt recounts his experience with substantial drawdowns in trading over several decades. He indicates that from 1975 to 1979, he faced near total drawdowns that wiped out accounts. From 1979 through 2008, he saw multiple drawdowns exceeding 30 percent, with occasional drops reaching 50 percent on a daily mark-to-market basis.

Brandt states that since 2014, he has become more disciplined with losses, now experiencing routine 5-10 percent drawdowns on a weekly mark-to-market basis, with nothing larger occurring.

Brandt has frequently highlighted technical patterns in major markets. He recently identified the rare nine red birds pattern in gold futures, a formation historically linked to extended recoveries. In another analysis, he discussed a banana split pattern and horn formation in Bitcoin, referencing classic technical analysis frameworks.
