Stock futures start in negative territory, tweet author notes
Stock futures open lower across indexes

Tweet author, industry influencer, reported that futures for major U.S. stock indexes opened lower. The Dow Jones fell 0.24 percent, the S&P 500 dropped 0.28 percent, and the Nasdaq also declined 0.28 percent. The VIX, which measures market volatility, was down 1.34 percent.

These moves indicate a cautious start for U.S. equity markets.

In recent sessions, Peter Tuchman reported that the S&P 500 dropped 0.39 percent, erasing over $1.7 trillion in market capitalization over five days according to his earlier coverage. In a separate update, he noted a 0.44 percent gain for the index that added more than $200 billion in market value after a volatile trading session. These prior moves add context to the current cautious open.
