Nick Timiraos, chief economics correspondent at Wall Street Journal, reports that Kevin Hassett told Fox’s Maria Bartiromo it would be a "macroeconomic mistake" for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.
Hassett also implied that Warsh does not want to tighten monetary policy, but faces a divided committee. He further suggested that officials at the Fed who support tightening may be personally motivated.
Timiraos has previously noted the Federal Reserve’s shift from rate cut discussions to considering a hike during Kevin Warsh’s first meeting as chair here. He also reported that Federal Reserve vice chair Michelle Bowman recently attended a private Bank of America client dinner in New York after a key policy decision here. These events have drawn attention to internal debates and official engagements at the Fed.
