Hedge funds dominate U.S. Treasury market

Robin Wigglesworth highlights that hedge funds now own 8.5% of the entire U.S. Treasury market, surpassing the combined official holdings of China, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

He warns this concentration is dangerous, given the crucial role the U.S. government bond market plays in the global financial system.

Wigglesworth has previously noted that credit analysts at MS and GS authored widely referenced reports in recent market discussions. In an earlier piece, he examined the 1873 Founders Crash and its role in the Long Depression. These reports and historical reviews provide additional context to his recent scrutiny of hedge fund positions in U.S. Treasuries.
