Marc Goldwein: U.S. economic growth reached 2.2 percent over last year
U.S. economic growth at 2.2 percent

U.S. economic growth came in at 2.2 percent over the past year.

Marc Goldwein noted that while the latest quarter was strong, 40 percent of all quarters in the last two decades have produced growth of 3 percent or more, but the economy has never achieved that two years in a row in this period. Goldwein cautioned that a single strong quarter does not constitute a trend.

Goldwein has previously argued that a well-designed Social Security fix could address half of the fiscal gap. He has also cited Tax Policy Center data indicating that limits to the charitable deduction could raise $100 billion without reducing giving. His analysis often focuses on fiscal policy options and revenue impacts.
