Goldman Sachs sees U.S. data center risks

Goldman Sachs believes short-term moratoriums on new data centers are possible in the near term and could affect about 45% of the planned U.S. data center capacity expansion, with a significant portion of this in Texas.

James Pethokoukis reported the assessment and added that Goldman Sachs expects the moratoriums would not be long-lived over the longer term.

Pethokoukis has previously highlighted shifts in the financial sector, including a focus on large firms that maintain strong balance sheets in his analysis of financial company resilience. He has also cited UBS data showing that about 70% of 2,919 global billionaires tracked for the financial year to 2025 are self-made, based on the UBS global billionaires report. Both reports reflect active monitoring of trends shaping key sectors.
