Can Trump support and AI demand keep Dell above $500?
Bearish divergence raises medium-term correction risk for Dell

Dell has reached a new record high of $534.99 after a powerful rally supported by the AI boom and strong financial results. The technical picture, however, is beginning to show a notable buildup of medium-term risks.

In Q2 FY2027, Dell received a record $60.9 billion in AI server orders, recognized $16.4 billion in AI server revenue and ended the quarter with a $95 billion backlog. The company also became the first vendor to begin shipping rack systems based on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin architecture.

Another sentiment factor this year has been Donald Trump’s repeated public support for the company. The president has encouraged Americans to buy Dell computers on several occasions, while financial disclosures have also shown his own investment in Dell stock.

Bearish divergence raises medium-term correction risk

Despite the strong fundamental backdrop, the daily chart is beginning to show signs of serious overheating. The RSI (14) has been forming a bearish divergence since January 2026, and the signal has become increasingly pronounced as the rally has continued.

Another warning sign is the stock’s distance from the 200-day SMA, which now exceeds 106%. The last comparable episode occurred in late May 2024, when Dell peaked at $179.70 before falling to roughly $86.90 by August, a correction of more than 50% from the high.

The medium-term scenario therefore points to a gradual move back toward the 50-day SMA near $440, followed by the psychological $400 support level if weakness deepens.

At the same time, Dell remains close to its record high, and stocks in price discovery can stay extremely overbought for much longer than expected.

For that reason, confirmation of the bearish case would come not from the RSI or the wide gap above the 200-day SMA alone, but from a sustained move below $500. Until that happens, trying to trade against the prevailing trend remains particularly risky.

Dell’s business remains strong but the valuation reset risk is growing

The main contradiction for Dell is that a correction would not necessarily imply any deterioration in the underlying business. The AI server backlog, strong enterprise demand and upgraded forecasts remain supportive, while management is due to speak at Goldman Sachs and Citi conferences on September 9 and 10, where investors could receive fresh comments on demand and the AI pipeline.

After such a rapid re-rating, however, even strong fundamentals may no longer be enough to sustain a vertical advance. The bearish divergence and extreme distance from the long-term average make $500 the key level to watch.
