AMD stock hits record high as AI demand keeps $650 in focus
AMD extends gains as chip demand stays strong

AMD has set another all-time high, while the fundamental backdrop continues to support the move. Demand for AI chips remains strong enough that the company is already planning a meaningful expansion in supply for 2027.

On October 6, AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company intends to significantly increase chip shipments in 2027 as demand from AI customers continues to exceed available supply. During a visit to Taipei, she noted that AMD had already expanded supply throughout 2026, but market demand grew even faster.

To support higher volumes, AMD is in talks with key supply-chain partners. Su has already met with Foxconn and was expected to hold discussions with TSMC, while the company is also working with memory suppliers ahead of her visit to South Korea.

Those comments are consistent with AMD’s recent financial momentum. In the second quarter, Data Center revenue rose 107% year-on-year to $6.7 billion, while management had previously pointed to further acceleration in the segment during the second half of the year.

AMD targets $650 after setting a new record high

The base-case scenario from the previous analysis played out in full. After breaking above the short-term trendline, AMD shares extended their rally and reached a new all-time high at $639.

For now, the base case remains a continuation of the move towards psychological resistance at $650. With the stock trading at fresh record levels, there are few established historical supply zones above the current price, leaving momentum firmly in buyers’ favour.

Opening short positions at these levels remains particularly risky. The first more reliable bearish signal would appear only if the stock falls below $620 and then establishes a sustained move under that level.

High expectations could amplify volatility into AMD earnings

The next major test for AMD is approaching with earnings season. After setting a new all-time high and highlighting demand that continues to outstrip supply, the company is heading into its next report with elevated market expectations.

The closer earnings get, the greater the risk of wider price swings. Investors are likely to react sharply to any fresh signals around AI demand, Instinct shipments, capacity expansion and Data Center growth.
