Ethereum price slides as ETF outflows and whale liquidation risk build
Pressure on Ethereum is building from several directions at once, leaving buyers with increasingly little room for error. Attention is now turning to whether the market can stabilize before another wave of forced liquidations adds to the decline.
U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs have now recorded net outflows for seven days. In the session of October 7, net outflows amounted to about $160.9 million. This shows that the demand for ETFs is yet to improve.
Nonetheless, there is a high probability that forced liquidations could happen for large leveraged positions. Hypurrscan reports that one of the whales is long on 98,089 ETH, which is valued at about $252.3 million. The levels of liquidation stand at $2,446.48 and $2,424.47.
A further decline toward the $2,400–2,450 area could therefore trigger additional selling pressure and accelerate the move lower.

Failure to hold $2,550 would increase downside risk
The bearish scenario outlined earlier has played out in full. ETH fell below $2,630 support and reached the $2,550 target.
Over the next few days, this level becomes the key technical line to watch. If buyers fail to defend $2,550 and the 50-day SMA, the risk of a deeper decline toward the $2,400–2,450 area would increase materially.
The current bearish setup would be invalidated by a recovery and sustained move above $2,630. In that case, the next target would shift toward resistance at $2,720.
Downside pressure persists while ETF demand stays weak
Ethereum is currently facing pressure from two sides: persistent ETF outflows are weakening institutional demand, while large leveraged long positions leave the market vulnerable to another acceleration lower if liquidation levels come into play.
That makes ETH’s ability to defend $2,550 particularly important. As long as ETF flows remain negative and liquidation risk stays elevated, the short-term balance continues to favor sellers.
