Strategy buys 267 BTC and spends $193 million on share buybacks
Michael Saylor's Strategy has purchased 267 BTC for $22.1 million, bringing its total holdings to 848,517 BTC. At the same time, the company spent $193.1 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares, nearly nine times the amount invested in Bitcoin.
According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the cryptocurrency purchases took place between October 12 and 18, 2026. The average purchase price was $82,900 per BTC.
Strategy also increased the size of its preferred stock buyback program from $2 billion to $3 billion. The company remains the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin.
STRC buyback spending exceeds Bitcoin purchases
During the reporting week, Strategy repurchased 1.94 million shares of its Stretch (STRC) preferred stock. The company raised approximately $22 million to fund its Bitcoin purchases by selling 140,872 shares of MSTR common stock, while the STRC buybacks were financed using existing cash reserves.
Since the beginning of the fourth quarter, Strategy has spent $459.2 million repurchasing STRC shares. Over the same period, the company purchased 851 BTC for $72.3 million, more than six times less than its preferred stock buyback spending.
STRC is a class of preferred stock with a variable dividend rate. Strategy previously said it intended to repurchase these shares when their market price fell below the $100 par value to support their trading price.
The company also disclosed a $4.83 billion U.S. dollar reserve intended to cover preferred stock dividends and debt obligations. It held an additional $447.3 million in cash.
Against the backdrop of the latest transactions, Saylor said Bitcoin had returned to a bull market. He pointed to the cryptocurrency's recovery above its 200-day moving average as evidence.
Strategy shares approach bullish technical signal
Ahead of the October 19 market open, MSTR shares were up more than 2.5% in premarket trading on the Nasdaq. However, the stock had ended the previous week down approximately 9.6% at $138.83.
STRC preferred shares also showed signs of recovery, rising 0.8% to $98.45 in premarket trading.
Meanwhile, a golden cross technical pattern is forming on the MSTR chart. The pattern occurs when a shorter-term moving average crosses above a longer-term moving average. A similar signal appeared on Bitcoin's chart several weeks earlier.
In the past, such crossovers have sometimes preceded significant gains in Strategy shares, although the indicator's historical reliability is mixed. The signal alone does not guarantee further price increases.
Earlier, we reported that the cryptocurrency market is preparing for the launch of new futures contracts on CME Group and the release of key macroeconomic data. These developments could influence the performance of Bitcoin and other digital assets.
