Acquisition bid and shifting institutional stakes as price gains accelerate

Datadog has reportedly made a $4 billion acquisition offer for cloud security startup Upwind, although Upwind has not accepted and is pursuing its own funding round. Recent institutional activity includes Prime Capital Investment Advisors LLC and Pinnacle Associates Ltd. reducing their stakes in the company, while EULAV Asset Management acquired a new position of 42,737 shares in the third quarter. The acquisition interest has coincided with notable price gains for the company’s stock.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that Datadog’s recent rally is fueled by acquisition rumors but sees risk in the stock’s rapid ascent. He points out that both Prime Capital Investment Advisors LLC and Pinnacle Associates Ltd. cut their stakes, signaling possible institutional unease. The technical structure is bullish, but momentum readings such as BBP and high intraday volatility may hint at overextension. Kharitonov remains cautious due to unresolved acquisition talks and the risk of a pullback if sentiment shifts. "Despite strong momentum, I see a real risk of correction if the acquisition fails or investor enthusiasm subsides," he warns.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees Datadog’s $4 billion bid for Upwind as a clear signal of strategic ambition and sector leadership. The stock’s strong move above major moving averages confirms robust confidence among market participants. Karapetjanc highlights that institutional interest remains significant, with new positions being built even as some reduce exposure. He notes that the bullish structure remains intact and expects Datadog to capitalize on cloud security trends. "In my view, upward momentum will likely persist and further growth can be expected if key resistance is broken," he says.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, observes that Datadog’s breakout is supported by positive sentiment and uninterrupted buying pressure. He points out that the technical indicators, such as moving averages and MACD, suggest room for further short-term gains, but the RSI and Stochastic RSI show the stock is not yet overbought. Turakhiya expects increased volatility around the $282.25 resistance but sees potential for sharp moves in either direction. "I see sentiment-driven traders watching for a breakout or abrupt reversal as volatility stays high," he concludes.

Sustained buying power with resistance and overbought risk emerging

Datadog is trading well above its 20-day ($271.39), 50-day ($248.7), and 200-day ($194.78) moving averages, indicating strong upward momentum in the short, medium, and long term. The nearest resistance stands at $282.25, with support indicated by the recent week high at $277.15. Moving average positioning supports a broadly bullish structure. Momentum signals show strength: the MACD and ADX both indicate strong buying pressure. The RSI at 53.21 and Stochastic RSI at 36.32 suggest the stock is not yet overbought, while the CCI and Awesome Oscillator are neutral. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) at 7.2 shows buyers currently dominate intraday momentum, though BBP forecasts an overbought condition. After opening with an upside gap of around $1.05 (0.39%), the stock has climbed $11.71 or 4.34%, now trading near its session high with elevated intraday volatility at 5.70%. The trend is reinforced by consistent buying strength toward session highs.

Earlier, analysts noted that Datadog’s reported bid for Upwind Security and its robust technical structure positioned the company for potential further gains. Current trading strengthens this view, as continued buying momentum and institutional activity suggest that surpassing the $282.25 resistance level could signal the next leg higher within an elevated volatility range.
